About Guy Mitchell:-
Guy Mitchell, born Albert George Cernik on 22 February 1927 in Detroit, Michigan, was an American singer and actor who enjoyed considerable success in the 1950s. He became particularly popular in the United States and United Kingdom for his distinctive baritone voice and lively country-influenced pop recordings.
Mitchell began his career singing with big bands before signing a recording contract with Columbia Records. His breakthrough came with songs such as My Heart Cries for You and The Roving Kind, which established him as a successful recording artist.
He went on to achieve a series of major hits, including Singing the Blues, Heartaches by the Number, Rock-a-Billy and Cloud Lucky Seven. His recordings often combined country, traditional pop and early rock influences.
Mitchell became particularly popular in Britain, where several of his songs reached the top of the charts. Singing the Blues was especially successful and became one of his signature recordings.
He also appeared in films and television programmes during his career, extending his popularity beyond music.
Although his greatest commercial success came during the 1950s, Guy Mitchell's recordings remain an important part of the transition between traditional popular music and the emerging rock and roll era.
He died in 1999 aged 72, leaving behind a substantial catalogue of recordings and a lasting legacy as one of the notable singers of the early rock and pop era.
